David Adedeji Adeleke, known by his stage name Davido, is an American-born Nigerian artist, songwriter and producer. He made his music debut as member of the group KB International and rose to fame after releasing his song, “Dami Duro”, which was the second single from his debut album Omo Baba Olowo. In 2012, Davido won the Next Rated award at The Headies and between 2013 and 2015, he released nine songs, with “Gobe”, “Skelewu” and “Aye” being the most notable.
In 2016, Davido signed his first major record deal with Sony Music and founded his own record label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), a few months later. In April of 2017, he released his next two singles, which would launch him into global stardom. The first track “If” generated worldwide social media attention, while the second “Fall” became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. In January of 2019, he sold out the O2 Arena in London, becoming the first solo African musician to do so and was introduced on stage by actor Idris Elba.
Tapping into the American market, Davido enlisted the help of Chris Brown on his track “Blow My Mind”. The music video for the single garnered one million views in 11 hours and became the Nigerian music video to gain the most views in 24 hours of its release. His most recent album A Good Time features Summer Walker, Gunna, A Boogie wit da Hoodie and Chris Brown.
